Audition Details

As part of the audition process, dancers will also complete a short at-home learning portion. This allows us to see how they absorb and refine choreography over a longer period of time—and how they bring that preparation to life on the floor.

Videos will be shared on this webpage as a helpful reference, giving every dancer the chance to practice, build confidence, and walk in feeling ready.

EXTRAS PROGRAM
Extras at VIVA include solos, duets, and trios. Dancers pursuing an extra must audition at VDC East on Thursday, May 21st, in a separate portion from the Teams/Company evaluation. Only dancers interested in an extra need to attend. On the Audition Form, dancers indicate their preferred style and type of extra, and may also note whether they would like their extra to compete in the All-Star or Company division. Dancers may not cross their extra over to a division they do not have group routines in – you must be dancing All-Star to compete your extra in All-Star, and must be dancing in at least one Company number to register for studio competitions.

Extra auditions require attendance on Thursday, but the process begins during dancers' team assessment. Abilities such as movement quality, timing, technique, skill-set, and performance energy will be observed as they dance on both team-day, and in smaller groups on Extra's day. Other factors considered include a review of the previous season's work ethic, attendance, attitude, readiness for additional responsibility, and with awareness to an achievable balance in dance commitments.

Dancers will be evaluated on their team-day combinations, as well as improvisational skills that allow them to express their personal style and unique interpretation of music.
